August Heat

This week we did more weeding (why is it the weeds grow so well even when the crops are too hot?) and watering. The weather has cooled off a bit but our growing cabbage and squash still need extra water.

We have several things to be thankful for this week:

1. Thanks to Bertine for making time to water our crops mid-week during these hot days!

2. Thank you for the mystery giver who dropped of a giant bag of seeds! We have fall crops as well as spring and summer in the mix!

3. The Cascade Neighborhood Council made us a cheerful new scarecrow! It's standing by the lilac tree where our giant week mountain used to reside and even has a sign with the garden name!

Coming up, we have some exciting plans. In addition to the needed watering and weeding, Tuesday this week we'll be focusing on the drip irrigation system in the back beds and getting the beds ready for fall crops.

On Friday the 12th we have a group of volunteers from one of the Amazon offices coming for the afternoon. They're going to help plant!

On Saturday, we'll be doing more irrigation work and harvesting the potato piles.

Mark your calendars for the 20th! We'll have our fall planning meeting. Come meet your fellow volunteers and weigh in on future projects!

Our new scarecrow!

Summer squash is growing strong!
