Winter Work

It's the middle of November already! The fall harvest was a bit of a bust after three months of August weather, but the tomatoes had a nice long season.

This winter, we have some of the raised beds going with sturdy greens. The rest of the beds have either a cover crop or (an ongoing project) a nice thick layer of leaf mulch.

Although the beds are resting, there's still plenty to do! On the Open Hours page, you’ll find a schedule of drop-in work hours through the middle of March.

Please mark your calendars and turn out on January 21st for the community meeting. This will give us a chance to all meet in person, discuss the last year, and lay plans for 2023. We'll also have folks from the p-patch next door so we can plan together.

Two big projects this winter are next weekend's (November 26th) pruning party and the rain barrel project. Nothing in the garden has been pruned for at least a couple years and some things need to be taken out as they are either not doing well or have gotten too large. We'll be tackling these tasks together starting 1pm next weekend.

The rain barrel project is in review with the Department of Neighborhoods and I'll be sure to let you know when we have a work date. We did acquire 3 barrels from our neighbors at the Cascade Shelter Project. They will need a scrub but are ready to use!

Remember, one of the best ways to fight the gloomy feelings of dark winter is to get outside! Come and dig in!
